Morning Music Notes – Jay-Z To Change Diapers and Lyrics
Jay-Z to Stop Selling Occupy Wall Street Shirts; Will Change Diapers At Home
Unfortunately those sentences separated by the semi-colon are not related, or else it would be funny to see Jay-Z retreat home to do that. After being ripped apart by media and bloggers everywhere, Jay-Z and his Rocawear clothing line have stopped selling Occupy Wall Street t-shirts that didn’t help fund the cause (via The Hollywood Reporter).
If the shirts actually were mass produced, or if it was somehow a brilliant free marketing campaign for Rocawear is not certain, but call me a cynic.
In other positive Jay-Z news, he wants to help with his and Beyonce’s upcoming child (who is going to inherit a SHITLOAD of cash one day). Jay-Z said that he wants to help change diapers (via NME).
“The rapper also spoke about what kind of father he wanted to be and insisted that material wealth was no substitute for parental support. “Providing – that’s not love,” he said. “Being there – that’s more important. I mean, we see that. We see that with all these rich socialites. They’re crying out for attention; they’re hurting for love.
“I’m not being judgement – I’m just making an observation. They’re crying out for the love that maybe they didn’t get at home, and they got everything. All the material things that they need and want. So we know that’s not the key,” he added.”
Let’s just see how the jet set lifestyle of Jay-Z and Beyonce changes after having a child. I wonder how the rap lyrics will change, too.
“Come pay me, ’cause I’m the pied piper;
But wait a few secs, as I’m changing a diaper”
Billboard #1, coming right up.
The Man Behind the Black Sabbath Reunion? Producer Rick Rubin
Superstar producer Rick Rubin “called every 5 minutes” to make the Black Sabbath reunion happen (via Rock News Desk). I called a girl I liked every 5 minutes and it resulted in a new phone number for her, and a 50 yard distance restraining order which I haven’t found a loop hole around – yet.
Conveniently, Rick Rubin will reap the benefits of the Black Sabbath reunion, as he will be producing their new album.
“Guitarist Iommi said of Rick Rubin, who was also present: “He phoned us every five minutes.” The producer explained: “We’ve been working on developing material and we’re half-way into the writing process. It’s inspiring hearing what’s coming out.”
“Iommi described the experience as “like putting on an old glove” and Osbourne added: “We’ve written seven or eight songs.” The band will appear at next year’s Download festival at Donington in England to help mark the event’s tenth anniversary.”
Nightmare Collaborations: Susan Boyle Wants to Work with Kings of Leon, and Adele
Susan Boyle, who I haven’t heard news about in ages and am not complaining, said that she wants to record duets with both the Kings of Leon and Adele (via NME). Susan Boyle has a new number 1 in the UK, and news about her will be dominating my news feed for months on end I suspect. Including this gem of a quote:
“There are so many people I’d like to collaborate with. Lady Gaga, Bruno Mars, Michael Buble, Adele and Kings Of Leon to name a few. I think they are such wonderful talents. I could see myself rocking it up a bit.”
Hopefully nothing of these come to fruition, or I will smash my radio with a baseball bat. Except I use a radio app on my iPhone, and I don’t want to hear that. You’ve put me in a difficult situation, Susan Boyle!
Deadmau5 Remixes Radiohead’s Codex
Radiohead released The King of Limbs back in February, and even a double album of authorized remixes called TKOL RMX 1234567. DJ Deadmau5 must’ve felt out in the cold, so he decided to do something about it. He took the standout track, Codex, from the album, and made a mellow instrumentally remix, using loops and actually the bulk of the instrumental sections of the song. Make your ears happy and give it a listen below.
