Listen! Primus – Pure Imagination
Legendary odd-rockers Primus return this fall with their 8th studio album, Primus and the Chocolate Factory with the Fungi Ensemble. The album is “a wall to wall tribute to the 1971 musical Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory” (via rollingstone). Just reading that last sentence and the album title makes me instantly think YES! YES! YES! YES! YES! “yeah, that sounds like Primus”. The first song we get is a trippy cover of Pure Imagination (from the Wonka film).
I LOVE Primus, they are my favorite band (by the way, this is Millar writing this in case loyal PHM readers had thought Pete had suffered brain damage). Most people know them as the band who sings the South Park theme song. They have also made a ton of great music on many awesome albums that rock but are usually kind of weird too (in a good way).
Now it’s time for crazy new stuff from the band and I can’t wait. All-around genius and Primus bass legend Les Claypool describes the new music as “early Peter Gabriel records meets Dark Side of the Moon meets the Residents”. Ummmm, yeah, I will be getting this album October 21st when it’s released. Check out Pure Imagination:
