Morning Music Notes – Sir Hip Hop
If you like Godspeed You! Black Emperor (and my 2012 year end list says that I do), then chances are you’ll like offshoot band Hiss Tracts.
Hiss Tracts pairs David Bryant and Kevin Doria, who have been collecting some recordings of their work the past little while. The band have a track called halo getters, and the track gets a video courtesy of Godspeed You! Black Emperor projectionist Karl Lemieux. halo getters is off of forthcoming album shortwaves nights. Given the instrumental and ambient noise track a listen below.

Canadian Music Week should be running right now, but the 2014 Edition wisely chose to ditch the snow and rain of March and will revel in the rain and snow of May instead. CMW will run May 6 to 10, and will feature recently announced acts Mastodon, Owen Pallett, Born Ruffians, Mounties, Hidden Cameras, Hollerado, Brendan Canning, the Strumbellas, and many more. Check out all the bands, including previously announced ones like City & Colour, M.I.A., and Tegan and Sara, and buy tickets, over at their website.
Another Toronto music festival – TURF (Toronto Urban Roots Festival) – will return to the Garrison Commons on July 4 through 6. Joining acts like Sam Roberts Band, Neutral Milk Hotel, Gogol Bordello, Steve Earle, the Gaslight Anthem, Man Man, Violent Femmes, and Deer Tick will be Beirut, Jeff Tweedy, July Talk and a few others. Check out their website for more info.
Guess who wants to wants to make hip hop records with Pharrell Williams and Kanye West? Well, besides everyone, Sir Elton John has mentioned this in a recent interview. And he thinks Kanye’s My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy is “a motherfucker of a record.” (via Rolling Stone)
