Morning Music Notes – Good News, Ontario

I will totally admit that I never bought into the huge amount of buzz behind UK band Savages. We’ve never featured them before, despite them being touted as the next big thing. However, their latest single will have me revisit their other stuff to see if it’s either different or I just awoke like a Cylon sleeper agent to realize what I’m missing.

The new video from Savages is the album closer, Marshal Dear. The album Silence Yourself is also nominated for a coveted Mercury Prize. The video is inspired by Kurt Vonnegut’s novel Slaughterhouse Five, and features some interesting animation. Check it out below and let’s see if there’s room on the Savages’ bandwagon.

U2 will be releasing two new songs as part of Record Store Day’s Black Friday. The tracks will be on a 10″ vinyl and are Ordinary Love backed by Breath. Both tracks were written for the Nelson Mandela movie Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom. A limited edition of 10,000 (so not that limited) will run. (via Billboard)

Remember that torrent site isoHunt? Well, it’s randomly back, after being forced shut and having to pay pocket change $110 million to the MPAA. The site is essentially a copy of the original, made without permission of the original founder’s knowledge. Let’s see what happens (via Digital Music News)

Totally dropped the ball on this one. Meant to post it two days ago (aka two lifetimes ago on this fast paced Internet thingy). Good news for music in Ontario (which is where Toronto and Ottawa are, for those geographically-ignorant people). Our wonderful province has set aside a massive $45 million for a new Ontario Music Fund. The fund will help music development for both companies and the industry as a whole, as well as live music.
