Chris Cornell to Release New Album ‘Songbook’
I was sitting at home the other day, flipping through my Alt 90s CD collection and thinking to myself, “This collection is missing some more Soundgarden, specifically a “I didn’t see that coming” Chris Cornell solo album.” Well, my dreams have been answered, as Chris Cornell is releasing an acoustic album full of cover songs (via NME).
“The LP – ‘Songbook’ – features tracks from his band Soundgarden and former groups Audioslave and Temple Of The Dog. The release will also feature covers by Led Zeppelin including ‘Thank You’ and John Lennon’s classic hit ‘Imagine’.”
The album is set for release in the UK on November 21, and will likely follow the next day in North America.
The track listing for Songbook:
‘As Hope And Promise Fade’
‘Scar On The Sky’
‘Call Me A Dog’
‘Ground Zero’
‘Can’t Change Me’
‘I Am The Highway’
‘Thank You’
‘Cleaning My Gun’
‘Wide Awake’
‘Fell On Black Days’

Noel Gallagher Has the Number One Album in the UK
Noel has something that Liam Gallagher does not: talent A number one album in the UK (the headline gave away the answer, you fools!). Noel sold 120,000 albums to go to the top of the UK album charts (via Guardian). This must be sweet news to Noel’s ears, as brother Liam’s band, Beady Eye, only managed to reach number 3 in the charts.
Liam has said he would like to get out another Beady Eye album sooner than later. Noel has already recorded an 18 song album with Amorphous Androgynous, that he has described as “out there”. Round 2 awaits us!
Zooey Deschanel Sings U.S. National Anthem at World Series
For those who don’t need three hour naps in front of the TV watch baseball, you would’ve missed the sight of Zooey Deschanel singing the US National Anthem ahead of Game 4 of the World Series. Zooey wasn’t doing it to promote She & Him’s upcoming Christmas album, but rather her current new TV show on Fox, called New Girl. Is there anything Zooey can’t do (hint: no). Check out a video of it below.

Neil Young’s Bridge School Benefit Celebrates Its 25th Anniversary
One of the best annual charity music events around is the Bridge School Benefit, hosted by Neil Young. The event has now taken place for 25 years, at San Francisco’s Shoreline Amphitheatre. This past weekend was this year’s event, and it featured acts such as Arcade Fire, Mumford & Sons, Beck, Dave Matthews, and more. Neil Young even played with some of the bands on various songs.
Young hosts the benefit with his wife Pegi, and together they founded the Bridge School in 1986. The Bridge School is for children with severe physical and speech impairments. The two-day event takes place over the weekend, and requires artists to perform in the nude! play their songs acoustically.
Check out Arcade Fire playing Helpless with Neil Young, who wrote the song over 40 years ago.
