Morning Music Notes – Macarena in the Meth Lab
I have very little interest in the Twilight series and the Hunger Games series – except for their official soundtracks. When you rope in Thom Yorke like I do in my dreams Twilight did, you start to pay attention. The latest Hunger Games film, Catching Fire, has landed bands such as Coldplay, The National, Of Monsters and Men, and the artists featured today – Sia, with The Weeknd and Diplo.
Diplo spins a catchy and repetitive beat, while Sia sings elegantly over top of it, with the The Weeknd providing a verse and some backing harmonies later in the song, Elastic Heart. Check it out below, and revisit the Coldplay single, Atlas, also from the film.

Morning Music Notes
Well, isn’t this just the nicest thing. Two women, aged 17 and 19, recorded a message to Paul McCartney. They did this 50 years ago when the Beatles were supposed to play the Finsbury Park Astoria in London, and the women still had their original teeth. He never received the message – until now, and recently replied to the women, who hopefully didn’t become Rolling Stones fans because of the snub. Read the full story of the tape (via Rolling Stone)
Badfinger, the band whose song played during the final scene of Breaking Bad, is now on the top 25 of the iTunes’ top songs chart, and is likely going to wind up on the Billboard charts somewhere. Thankfully they didn’t pick the Macarena for the final scene (via Billboard)
Arcade Fire, Eminem, and Lady Gaga will all play at the inaugural YouTube Awards on November 3. No surprise that you can stream the whole thing on Hulu YouTube. Jason Schwartzman will host, Spike Jonze will direct, and he wants to see some live collaborations (via NME)
In a new blog post for The Guardian, the well-spoken Lauren Mayberry (who has a journalism degree, in addition to having a law degree and being a great singer) from CHVRCHES has call for a stop to online misogyny.
ICYMI yesterday, Toronto’s Drake is now the Toronto Raptors’ Global Ambassador. Does he get a red coloured diplomatic license plate, too? He will be part of a rebranding of the NBA basketball club in a hope to make the team cool (and competitive?) again. Toronto will also host the 2016 NBA All-Star game. Sweet. (via Stereogum)
