Make Your Ears Happy: Coldplay feat. Rihanna – Princess of China
One of the more interesting numbers on the tracklisting for Coldplay’s upcoming Mylo Xyloto was Number 10 – Princess of China, featuring Rihanna. Perhaps Chris Martin’s side projects are impacting the band, much how Thom Yorke’s personal DJ’ing/electronica likes have been fused into Radiohead’s latest works. Chris Martin has done tracks with both Kanye West and Jay-Z, and Jay-Z even featured on a remix of Lost (if you haven’t heard it, don’t – it doesn’t suit the track). After listening to the beats in Paradise (can I say that about a Coldplay song?), it seems Coldplay are slowly moving away from the out and out guitar rock and are getting into different beats and rhythms.
Next up is the Rihanna featuring Princess of China. Right off the bat, this is not a Coldplay song. Trippy synth intro, layered dual harmonies, and a nice beat (I said it again). It sounds like Coldplay, but it DOESN’T sound like Coldplay – which is good, because it’s about time they push their damn boundaries.
Before the internet shuts it down, listen to the video below. If it’s shut down, let me know, or hit up Youtube and look it up. Doing work sucks, I know.
UPDATE: EMI HAS BEEN SHUTTING DOWN ANY LINKS ASAP. APOLOGIES FOR THE TEASE.
