In a surprise to virtually no one, I am a gigantic loser Jay-Z has yet another Billboard number 1 album for his latest effort, Magna Carta Holy Grail. For those keeping track at home, this is his 13th album to be number 1 on Billboard (only the Beatles have more, with 19). The album sold 539,000 copies – slightly higher than anticipated (and this doesn’t count the 1 million copies that Samsung bought and gave away) (via Billboard)
Jay-Z is also doing well in the world of Spotify. He’s doing so well, that he broke the record for not only the most-streamed album in its first week, but the most streamed album of all-time. Magna Carta Holy Grail was streamed 14 million times last week, beating Daft Punk’s record of 8 million streams (via Gigwise)
Have you ever wanted a $75 baseball hat? Of course not, but what if it were a Toronto Blue Jays hat designed by Drake? That might not change things for many, but Drake has teamed up with the Jays and New Era and helped design a hat which will sell at his OVO Fest in August 4/5 and also one select Blue Jay game. The hat will be black or royal blue. (via Exclaim)
The teenage girl webzine Rookie has a great segment called Ask a Grown Man. An earlier episode featured Thom Yorke and Nigel Godrich in a rather hilarious bit in which they answered questions about dating and such from young girls. The latest band to get in on the action are Vampire Weekend. Find out the answers to all the questions I put forth in the video below, as answered by Ezra Koenig and Chris Baio.
