2013 Polaris Prize Short List
This morning, the Polaris Prize announced their short list of nominees, chopping down the long list from 40 to a short list of 10. These 10 albums will now be voted on to determine the Polaris Prize winner, which recognized the best Canadian album in the past year. Last year’s winner was Feist for her album Metals, making her a two-time winner.
And now, your short list of 10:
A Tribe Called Red – Nation II Nation
Godspeed You! Black Emperor – ‘Allelujah! Don’t Bend! Ascend!
Zaki Ibrahim – Every Opposite
Metric – Synthetica
METZ – METZ
Purity Ring – Shrines
Colin Stetson – New History Warfare Vol. 3: To See More Light
Tegan and Sara – Heartthrob
Whitehorse – The Fate of the World Depends On This Kiss
Young Galaxy – Ultramarine
The winner bags a cool $30,000, and will forever be known as “Polaris Prize winner”, followed by whatever their name is. Kind of like how when people see me, they’re like “Look, it’s gummi bear eating contest winner, Pete!” Actually, I never leave my parents basement, so no one actually says that to me.
The Polaris Prize winner will be announced on September 23, 2013.
