Make Music Matter and the My Song for Change Contest

There’s a charity called Make Music Matter, and they’re trying to do something good with music (unlike some current top 40 pop stars). Make Music Matter works in countries that have been deeply scarred by conflict, HIV/AIDS, and violence against women.

They’re running a contest called My Song for Change. Canadians older than 18 were asked to cook up a song about global issues that they and other young people across the world face (hint: see previous paragraph for sample topics).

So what do you get if you win this contest? You can have the track and video produced by Ian D’Sa from Billy Talent and Cone McCaslin from Sum 41. Your song probably shouldn’t be about your bad hair day or about that Pete blogger who refuses to wear pants. The 2013 submission period has passed, and Canadians can vote for the top 10 songs over the next two weeks, ending on July 24. You can vote here and find out more about the charity on their website.
