Big Boi Slams Andre 3000, Andre Isn’t Sure What His Musical Future Holds
Big Boi is about to release his latest solo album, Vicious Lies and Dangerous Rumors. Outkast buddy, Andre 3000, isn’t on the album, which isn’t a huge surprise but did raise an eyebrow or two. When asked about Laface not clearing Andre 3000 to be on his last album, and if that was the case this time around, Big Boi said “No, that’s all cleared up now. He could’ve been on any song he wanted to. I gave the motherfucker about five songs, but I guess he was just too busy. He said he had to do some Gillette shit [room erupts in laughter]. No for real. He said he had some contractual obligations” (via Village Voice).
Interestingly to Sons of Anarchy fans such as myself, is that Big Boi turned down the role of Damon Pope this season. Pope is now played by Harold Perrineau, who used to play Michael in Lost.
So what happened after Big Boi’s hilarious comment? He decided to clear things up by tweeting a clarifying statement that there’s no beef (are they vegetarian?) – “The Gillette Statement was me being Sarcastic, man y’all slow as hell,” adding “No Beef between me and Stacks. No More Outkast ?’s will be answered.”
So what exactly is Andre 3000 doing, besides high profile shaving product commercials? He hasn’t made an album since 2006, although he has done some guest spots here and there. When talking about music, he recently said “Things are kind of up in the air with me, and some days, I feel like yeah, I’ll do it. Some days, I feel like, I don’t. I don’t know the future of music right now. I have no idea what I do. I honestly don’t” (via Rolling Stone).”
“I record and I write ideas. I think I’ll always do that, for some reason. But I don’t know if it will go to another artist or will it be my stuff or will it go to some movie? I don’t know. I just kind of keep creating and hopefully, it’ll fall into a slot.”

Music Streaming Increases 700% in the UK in 2012
If you don’t think music streaming is likely the way of the future, then pay attention to this stat: I eat 5 cookies everyday music streaming is up 700% in the UK in 2012 (via NME). 7.5 billion tracks have been viewed so far on services like Spotify, Deezer, last.fm, compared to 1.1 billion in 2011. Amazingly, 250 billion songs were viewed on YouTube this year, too.
Did this translate to album sales? 2012 has only seen nine breakthrough UK acts (albums with 100,000 sales), compared to 19 last year and 27 in 2007. Why pay when you can stream for free? The billion dollar question is how to get the younger generation to pay for music they are used to getting for free. That, and how to make tasty, low calorie cookies for me.
Damon Albarn’s Sound Collage Played on All BBC Stations at Once
BBC turned 90 yesterday, and Damon Albarn had the honour of making a sound collage to play across all of the various BBC stations all at the same time. The piece is called 2LO and is sort of like The Beatles’ Revolution 9 in that it features conversations and radio static and is sort of random. Messages were specifically recorded, reaching out to listeners 90 years in the future, when PeteHatesMusic controls the BBC and all the world’s media. Bon Jovi’s Daughter ODs on Heroin
Bon Jovi, whose music likely will never be featured on PHM, had his daughter Stephanie hospitalized after overdosing on heroin (via Billboard). The 19 year old was hospitalized and is also facing drug charges – how is that for a kicker. Also arrested was 21 year old Ian Grant. Bon Jovi has yet to comment, but at least he has some new lyrical inspiration for some middle of the road songs.
Watch! Mt. Wolf – Climax
We recently featured the video for Mt. Wolf’s excellent track, Life Size Ghosts. The band have now done a creative cover of Usher’s Diplo-producer Climax track.
Kate Sproule’s vocals provide an interesting contrast to the original track, while the band do their dream folk thing in the background, giving the song a new feel. Be sure to check it out below.
