Eminem Use Baseball Hat to Announce New Album for 2013

Eminem has a ‘Baseball Tribute Champ Hat’ for sale on his website, with the side panel dedicated to “landmark Eminem solo albums.” Either this hat is some kind of psychic that we need to exploit, or Eminem is slyly announcing that 2013 is the release date of his next album (via NME). It would’ve been much cooler had Eminem been at a Detroit Tigers World Series game and been wearing this baseball hat. Apparently not all marketing people are as great (or modest) as I am. There’s always next game, Em. Oh wait, your Tigers just got swept!

Interpol’s Paul Banks to Star as Lead in New Movie

I guess Paul Banks’ solo videos have caught someone’s eye. The Interpol frontman will star in the Father of Agent Cody Banks Mine to Kill, co-written by New York writers Jeff Kinkle and James Kendi (via Gigwise).

The movie’s synopsis says “Geoffrey Kendle is a creative director at a hip advertising agency in Manhattan. While his life is extraordinarily pleasant, a palpable sense of ennui persists. Knowing he will never die of starvation, Geoffrey is preoccupied he will one day die of boredom. Then while driving through a desolate patch of Upstate New York very late on a warm August night, he happens upon a woman in distress on the side of the road. The encounter sets in motion a series of events that gives him the impetus to leave his perfect life.”

Gary Glitter Brought in By Police in Connection with Jimmy Savile’s Sexual Abuse Charges

This is a pretty big story in the UK, but not sure how it was played on this side of the pond (by the way – I’m on the west side of the Atlantic as I write this and thousands of future posts). Former BBC host Jimmy Saville, who passed away a year ago today, has had several sexual abuse claims made against him. Scotland Yard is looking at around 300 young abuse victims in the scandal, which has rocked the BBC and led to several internal investigations.

However, Gary Glitter – he of being guilty of downloading kiddie p0rn and molesting an 11 and 12 year old girl in Vietnam – has been detained by police in London in connection with the investigation into Saville (via Hollywood Reporter). The former Top of the Pops host once defended Glitter for downloading the images that he did. Um, okay. If the name Gary Glitter rings a bell, it’s because he sings Rock’n Roll Part 2, which is overplayed in sports arenas around the world.

Newsflash: Yoko Ono Did Not Break Up the Beatles Says Paul McCartney

Wait, we’re still not over this? In a rare lengthy interview, Sir Paul McCartney tells David Frost that Yoko Ono did not break up the Beatles (via Guardian). Famed interview David Frost (of Frost-Nixon fame) delved deep into topics such as the breakup, marriage (excluding his second marriage, to Heather Mills), and losing his mum at a young age.

Specifically regarding the Beatles breakup, Sir Paul said “She certainly didn’t break the group up, the group was breaking up.” Case closed? Paul also mentions the positive influence of Yoko on John Lennon, noting “I don’t think he would have done that without Yoko, so I don’t think you can blame her for anything. When Yoko came along, part of her attraction was her avant garde side, her view of things, so she showed him another way to be, which was very attractive to him. So it was time for John to leave, he was definitely going to leave [one way or another].”
