Morning Music Notes – No Rush to Nominate Us
2013 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Nominees Announced
Canadian rock legends, Rush, have finally been nominated for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. They are on the ballot along with acts such as Kraftwerk, N.W.A., Public Enemy, Joan Jett and the Blackhearts, Deep Purple, Randy Newman, The Meters, Heart, Paul Butterfield Blues Band, Chic, The Marvelettes, and Albert King (via Consequence of Sound). The top 5 vote getters will get FREE CANDY immortalized in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland, Ohio, with induction taking place April 18, 2013 in Los Angeles for some reason.
Fans can now also vote, meaning that they will represent 1 of the 600 ballots that are cast by music industry snobs folks and other artists. You can vote over at Rolling Stone (whatever that is) until December 5. Have fun fucking with at least 1 of the ballots, trolls!
To make it into the Hall of Fame, 25 years need to have passed from your first recording. Rush’s first recording was in 1974, meaning they could’ve been inducted many years ago (we’ll leave the exact answer for those math loving readers). The band thought they would be made to wait until 2112 at this rate (nerdy Rush joke alert!).
BBC to Make Spotify Rival, Based on Their Existing iPlayer TV Service?
BBC currently lets you catch up on their excellent programming by letting you use their iPlayer to stream missed television shows. Now there are rumours (yes, rumours!) that BBC will launch Playlister, giving users free access to hundreds of thousands of songs without paying a cent (or any pence) (via Telegraph).
BBC’s iPlayer has been extremely successful for people wishing to catch up on televised they missed in the past 7 days. Tim Davie, BBC’s Director of Audio & Music, is hoping to bring the same success to Playlister. BBC are thought to be in talks with other services such as Spotify, Doozer, and iTunes Music, in order to secure group commercial licensing deals to make this a reality (much like my ‘turn water into beer’ dream which never gets off the ground). The service is expected to launch later this year / early 2013, while my exciting beer project will never see the light of day.
Billy Corgan is Being Sued By Some Famous Neighbours
Smashing Pumpkins singer / tea shop owner / wrestling company owner Billy Corgan wishes he had ‘gardener’ in his list of things he is good at. This is because he loves plants SO much a tree in Corgan’s yard fell into his neighbour’s house, nearly killing their pregnant wife (via Gigwise). His neighbours? Grey’s Anatomy actor Eric Dane and his actress wife, Rebecca Gayheart. I don’t know who they are either.
They have filed a lawsuit against Corgan, with the lawsuit noting Gayheart was “Surrounded by live high voltage wires, and without the benefit of any light whatsoever,” after the tree fell. Corgan had apparently been warned about the tree, but he’s such a rock n roll rebel, he didn’t trim that tree.
In typically legal fashion, Corgan denies the charges, noting, “I was horrified when I learned about the tree falling. Thankfully, no one was injured.” Corgan then screamed at his neighbours, recommending that they write a song about it.

Watch! Karen O (from Yeah Yeah Yeahs) – Strange Love
Frankenweenie might sound like the name bullies called me in high school, but it is actually Tim Burton’s stoppimation stop motion animation flick. One of the songs on the soundtrack was contributed by Yeah Yeah Yeahs front woman, Karen O. The slow, un-YYYs sounding track, Strange Love, now has a video. Check it out below – does it remind anyone else of a She & Him styled song?
