Morning Music Notes – Instagramming Hospital Visits
We haven’t heard much from Django Django since they topped the PeteHatesMusic year end list with their debut album. The band have returned with a cover of The Monkees – not a traditional way to return to music.
The song is a cover of 1968 track Porpoise Song. The cover song features on their Late Night Tales mix, out on May 12/13. As the band furiously finish up album #2, check out the Django-ified Monkees track.
Morning Music Notes
Coachella Weekend 2 wrapped up. Some quick highlights include:
Arcade Fire brought out special guests “Daft Punk”. Okay, not really. But people lost their shit.
Pharrell Williams brought out a whack of guests, yet again. This time fans got T.I., Usher, Busta Rhymes, and an extended set from Jay Z.
Chance the Rapper was hospitalized and cancelled his Coachella performance. He did what all savvy social media people do, and Instagrammed a photo of him in the hospital.
Nas and Lauryn Hill performed together!
Sadly, a 24 year old woman died at Coachella, possibly related to drugs and alcohol, but let’s not spread rumours.
Non-Coachella news:
Nothing else happened this weekend
Record Store Day was this weekend. The UK’s best selling records in the past year have been revealed to be: Arctic Monkeys – AM, Daft Punk – Randm Access Memories, Robbie Williams – Swing Both Ways. I assumed Robbie Williams’ fans wouldn’t be savvy enough to know what a record player is. (via NME)
Jack White successfully produced the world’s fastest record on Record Store Day. White recorded songs at 10am in his Third Man Studios, then the records were printed, and he helped hand them out to hundreds of fans lined up. All of this was within 4 hours. (via Gigwise)
Neil Young secretly released his new lo-fi cover album, as recorded at Third Man Records. A Letter Home is available right meow. (via Stereogum)
