LIsten! and all was bright – hope come soon (entire album)
Disclaimer: I know this artist in real life and we’re friends.
Okay, now that that’s out of the way, let me tell you about Ben Robertson, who goes by the stage name and all was bright. Ben introduced me to several artists who have had a profound effect on my musical journey. I was into post-rock bands, but didn’t deviate too much from the safe bets – the Godspeed You! Black Emperor’s and Mogwai’s of the post-rock world. Ben introduced me to other instrumental bands, including some ambient bands, like Explosions in the Sky (who I interviewed and saw in 2013) as well as Tim Hecker (#2 album on PHM in 2013), Eluvium, Mono, and others.
As and all was bright, Ben is not only making music akin to what he introduced me to, but he is doing it incredibly well. He has his debut album, hope come soon, streaming on his Bandcamp page (where you can buy it, too). The 8 track album is essentially one long ever-changing soundscape, a mix of synth fuzz and other effects, with a range of dynamics and tempos, giving you room to occasionally breathe after a cascade of sounds pleasantly attacks your ears.
Be sure to check out the album below, and check out his website for other sounds and a new video.
