Morning Music Notes – The Weirdest of All No-Shows
One of my favourite tracks last year was Hallways by Islands. The indie pop band have followed this up with an equally infectious track called Becoming The Gunship.
The summery track floats simply until it arrives at its catchy and explosive chorus. The track is lifted from the upcoming album, Ski Mask. Check out the latest from Islands below.

Morning Music Notes
Heavy hearts in Toronto today, as Blue Rodeo keyboardist James Gray has died. He had a heart attack on Monday. Gray played with Blue Rodeo from 1993 to 2006. (via Exclaim)
As I saw on Twitter over the weekend, Death Grips cancelled their Lollapalooza show. Then their Osheaga show. Was it another throat infection, such as the one that plagued both Azealia Banks and Frank Ocean? Nope, they never meant to show up at all. Instead, they purposely set up their equipment (with the intention not to show), played their music on loop, and projected a suicide note attributed to the band. What the fuck?! (via NME)
Daft Punk were supposed to play The Colbert Report last night. This all changed when MTV said “Hey, you’re playing a secret show at our MTV VMAs, and you’ll be breaking your contract if you play.” So MTV a) made Daft Punk cancel their appearance and b) ruined their own surprise (via Exclaim)
The ticketing giants that are Live Nation saw huge stock increases as profits soar. Their operating income rose 9.5% last quarter to $159.9 million, and net income rose to $58.1 million. No breaks will be given on service charges, ever (via Hollywood Reporter)
Producer JJ Doom is getting some help from his super friends (who sadly aren’t superheroes). Thom Yorke, Beck, and Dave Sitek will be helping out with a new version of his Keys to the Kuffs album (via NME)
