Morning Music Notes – Jack White Takes Over the News

Last year, the winner of BBC’s Sound of 2013 poll was California trio HAIM. The British poll attempts to name the biggest new talents emerging in music. Scottish synth poppers CHVRCHES landed in 5th.

CHVRCHES - Falling
It was somewhat fitting when CHVRCHES decided to cover HAIM when they stopped by BBC’s Live Lounge Late and try to “CHVRCH-ify” the song Falling. Check it out below and re-watch our interview with the band.

Morning Music Notes

Jack White is finally back in the news. Being in 3 bands and doing a solo thing apparently doesn’t get you in the daily news. Jack White released his first solo record in 2012. He is following that up by dabbling in recordings for both The Dead Weather and the Raconteurs. Excited? (via NME)

More Jack White news! His Third Man Records is releasing that one-off Jay-Z track Open Letter. The track was a response to critics who were angry when he and wife Beyonce went to Cuba. With it being Third Man Records, you know it’s going to be an interesting vinyl, and this is no different. The track will be an actual, playable letter. How literal. (via Pitchfork)

A lot of music sites rushed to post the new Kanye West video yesterday. Except the song is sort of average, and it didn’t look like an official release, so I held off. Turns out it was in fact an unofficial video that leaked, and Kanye is pissed off. Remember that I didn’t post it Kanye, so perhaps we should sit and do an interview. Ignore the part where I called your song “sort of average” (via Exclaim)

Get Lucky is the song of the summer. Nile Rodgers collaborated on the Daft Punk track, and now Daft Punk are returning the favour. Rodgers found some archival Chic tracks that are unfinished, and is roping in the French duo to help complete them. This is not bad news (via Billboard)
