NXNE Critical Conclusions for Modern Rivals (North By Northeast 2013 Concert Review)
Act number 2 on Thursday night for PeteHatesMusic was Brooklyn’s Modern Rivals.
Venue: Rancho Relaxo
First Impressions: The sound wasn’t the best to start. Really like the Toews Blackhawks jersey though. I felt bad for the “we need WAY more vocals up here” comment because the reply was “it can’t go any higher”. Gotta love festivals.
Stage Presence: Despite the very small stage, the guy in the Toews jersey managed to move around a lot.
Random Observation: Someone was blowing bubbles in the crowd. Band affiliated? I don’t think so.
Crowd Reaction: Unfortunately a smaller crowd but they seemed to dig what Modern Rivals were throwing down. How could you not?
Water/alcohol/neither: Pint of beer. Good lads.
The Last Word: 8 /10 – Nice tempo changes within the songs. Keyboard was a nice subtle part of the band’s sound. A nice mix of indie pop and rock that made people want to shake their hips.
