Morning Music Notes – Destination Festivals
My Morning Jacket Launches Mexican Resort Festival in Mexico
If Weezer and Coachella can have cruises, then I suppose a band can have a festival at a resort down in Mexico. Why bring drugs to a festival when you can bring a festival to the drugs. The band is My Morning Jacket and the drugs are location will be the Hard Rock Hotel in Riviera Maya, Mexico (via Consequence of Sound). The festival is called One Big Holiday and HEY WAIT, that’s the name of a My Morning Jacket song! I see what they did!
The festival will take place January 26 to 30, and has a capacity of 2,500 people. You can get all inclusive packages, and other information over at the website.
Watch the Throne Again – Kanye West and Jay-Z to Reunite Eventually
Kanye West is days away from dropping his highly anticipated (and ridiculously named) album Yeezus. A couple of years ago, he took the occasional collaborations with Jay-Z to a new level, releasing Watch the Throne, which paired the two superstars. Producer of the album, Mike Dean, said they are not actively working on it, but talking about it (via MTV). I suppose that’s something, although I talk about moving out of my parents’ basement and dating girls, but I’m not actively working on either.
Speaking to HuffPost Live, Dean said “Yeah, eventually. [They’re] not working on it yet, it’s just talking about it. I actually talked to Jay about it last week.” So basically, we have nothing to report. Sorry, folks.
Ringo Starr to Publish Kids Book Based on Octopus’s Garden
Former Beatle Ringo Starr is planning a children’s book based on the song he wrote called Octopus’s Garden (via Yahoo). This should not come as a surprise to anyone who has heard the lyrics, which sound like they were written by a 6 year old child.
The book will features a CD that will feature unreleased music from THE BEATLES Ringo Starr, and an audio reading. Ringo said “It gives me great pleasure to collaborate with Ben Cort and Simon & Schuster for the further adventures of Octopus’s Garden. Peace and Love, Ringo.”
Watch! The Lonely Island – Go Kindergarten
The Lonely Island comedy trio have been releasing one video per week in the build up to their album release. The last few didn’t really do it for me, so they didn’t get featured. Just because PHM features you once, it doesn’t mean you have a lifetime pass. However, their most recent song and video are pretty solid.
We have Paul Rudd and Sean (call me P Diddy, Diddy, Puff Daddy – basically anything ending in “ddy”) Combs stars in this spoof of big club anthems. And who better to sing the chorus than pop star Robyn. Lots of great jokes and matching actions. I’m a fan of the punching in the face. Check it out below.
