Morning Music Notes – Turbo Edition
I probably should’ve gotten Rich to cover these for me, as I’m drowning in Canadian Music Week coverage. Instead, you get the speed round from me.
Lollapalooza Headliners Look to Be Phoenix, Mumford & Sons, The Killers, and Vampire Weekend
Like they seem to do every year, The Chicago Tribune has the scoop on Lollapalooza’s Chicago festival ahead of their April announcement (via Chicago Tribune). They tip Mumford & Sons, Phoenix, Vampire Weekend, and The Killers to be the headliners. Generally good bands, but all headliners? Also rumoured to appear are The National, the Postal Service, with unconfirmed rumours of Nine Inch Nails. I still think the best year I’ve attended had Radiohead, Nine Inch Nails, and Rage Against the Machine as headliners – tough to beat that.
Tame Impala Pizza? Why not!
Musicians Tame Impala likely hoped to inspire future musicians. Instead, they have inspired a pizza recipe in their home of Australia. Pizza chef Theo Kalogeracos’ new cook book (which is surely not trying to capitalize on Tame Impala’s fame), Theo & Co. Take 2; The Search for the Perfect Pizza Continues, has a Tame Impala Pizza (via NME).
Let me guess – some magic mushrooms on there? Sadly, no. It does have haloumi cheese, lemons and green impala peppercorns. Impala – NOW I get it.
Listen! Fryars – On Your Own
More excellent stuff out of London, which is making me wish I was back in London and its excellent music scene (no offense, Toronto – I love you lots, too). We have something from Fryars, who is a singer and producer (real name: Batman Benjamin Garrett).
The track is On Your Own, and features some cool artwork (above), and is a slow, gentle pop track. Make your ears happy and give it a listen below.
