Morning Music Notes – Twitter to Hop on Music Bandwagon
Axl Being Axl – Guns N Roses Singer Breaks Fan’s Teeth
It only took one night in Australia, but Axl Rose is now getting sued (via Consequence of Sound). He didn’t incite a riot this time, but he did throw his cordless mic into the crowd in Perth, only to have it break two teeth of a man in the crowd. Dennis Wrong Wright is planning on suing Rose for AUD 5,000 ($5,150 CDN) to fix the damage.
Talking about the incident, Wright said “The next thing I knew, I was whacked in the mouth. I thought I had been punched. I was quite stunned and it took a few seconds to realize what was going on. I could feel bits of teeth in my mouth. Then someone is climbing through my legs to grab the microphone.”
Wright was offered a signed mic as a peace offering, which he flatly rejected, since he has two busted teeth. But the signed mic could’ve been sold on eBay to buy two new teeth!
Twitter Planning Music App, Meaning I’ll Never Leave Twitter
Twitter just acquired We Are Hunted (not a zombie-themed company, sadly), and are prepping a standalone music app by the end of the month (via CNET). The app will have the highly original name of Twitter Music and could be released on Apple’s iOS by the end of March. Songs would be streamed to the app through SoundCloud.
The move is somewhat a reaction to Facebook changing its News Feed to incorporate a music tab. It also makes sense to keep people on Twitter, rather than constantly link to songs and videos outside of Twitter. “Yeah, here’s a great song – leave our store and buy it elsewhere” is generally not good business practice.
The app will help music discovery, but why do you need that when you have PeteHatesMusic? Never leave this site!
Phoenix Going for Broke on Bankrupt!
If I was a terrible copy writer, headlines like that Phoenix one would litter the pages of media everywhere. Thankfully, I’m stuck on this blog, making you groan instead. What I’m trying to say is that French band, Phoenix, are releasing a whopping 71 demos and sketches on the deluxe edition of their new album, Bankrupt!. Don’t expect this to be some kind of quadruple album, as the package is about an hour long (in addition to the 41 minutes of the proper album). The album drops on April 22/23.
Justin Timberlake and Daft Punk Mash Up
I realize mash ups stopped being cool awhile ago. However, it’s amazing how much mileage this 15 second Daft Punk clip has gotten. First, we saw Ron Swanson dancing to it on loop for 10 minutes. Now we have it worked into the new Justin Timberlake song, Suit and Tie.
The track was done by The Hood Internet, and gives you a taste of how a JT-DP collaborate could sound. If you like upbeat Timberlake and not throwback sound Timberlake, then this track is probably up your alley. Check it out below.
