Osheaga Announces 2013 Line Up, Didn’t Invite “Pete Sings in the Shower” Act

It’s one of the best times of the year – shower time. Summer is almost here, which means summer festivals. That means right now is the time when all of the festivals start giving us their (hopefully) jaw-dropping line ups. Yesterday, we saw the line up for the twinned Reading / Leeds Festivals in the UK. Now, we have the line up for Montreal’s Osheaga.

The festival takes place August 2-4, which happens to be the exact same weekend as Lollapalooza. Some bands will put in the miles and play both festivals, while having other bands in Osheaga will eliminate them from Lollapalooza (who announces their line up next month). The festival sees The Cure and Mumford & Sons headlight, with secondary support from Phoenix, New Order, Vampire Weekend, The Lumineers, Kendrick Lamar and Macklemore & Ryan Lewis. Other stand out acts include the always excellent Hot Chip, Alt-J, Beach House, Two Door Cinema Club, Explosions in the Sky, Big Boi, Father John Misty, Frightened Rabbit, Wild Belle, and a shitload more. Check out the poster below, and check the website to buy your tickets on Friday.

Baauer Might Lose All of His Harlem Shake Cash

It looks like Baauer might be experiencing a Harlem Shake meme in reverse. The end of the video, when people are dancing and going crazy is what Baauer was doing with all of the money he has raked in from his uber-popular Harlem Shake track. The next step in the backwards video is Baauer sitting there nonchalantly, perhaps even crying, as he has lost all of his Harlem Shake money. Now, the latter part hasn’t happened but it could very soon – Baauer never cleared the two samples he uses in the track (via Guardian).

There are only two spoken phrases in the entire song, both of which are the cornerstones of the track, and Baauer cleared exactly NONE of them. The first is the Spanish phrase “Con los terroristas,” which is from artist Hector El Father’s 2006 album, Los Terroristas. The definitive “Do the Harlem Shake” phrase is also a sample, from Plastic Little’s 2001 track, Miller Time. Since EVERYONE has heard the Harlem Shake, needless to say the two artists being sampled clearly have. When they noticed Baauer is making money from it, and hadn’t cleared the samples, well – time to strike.

Return of the Sea and Sun Puns – The Weezer Cruise is Back

Weezer – remember them from the 90s? – are launching a second Weezer cruise after the first one seemed to pay the bills. This cruise will take place February 13-17, 2014, and thankfully they have given us all enough notice to work on our base tan. The ship will go from Jacksonville, Florida to Bahamas, with the band playing three sets during the trip (via Pitchfork).

No other acts have been announced yet. Weezer will be all over the place, doing photo sessions, a “special fan Q&A”, and “an interactive Weezer Game Show.” There’s even a promo trailer – check out the excitement below. Actually, the guys REALLY bring down the energy – I’m pretty sure the guy that changes your towels is more thrilled to be on the cruise than they seem to be.
