Watch! Sigur Rós – Ekki múkk
Sigur Rós makes it easy for bloggers to generate context. They make good music, which is usually the top criteria for posting. They also make a lot of videos, which helps accompany the ramblings from my keyboard. As you might know, they have undertaken a video experiment for their latest album release, Valtari. They gave a bunch of directors and artists the same amount of money to make a video for one of their songs, in what the band have dubbed the Valtari Mystery Film Experiment. This is much better than what Blink 182 did when they were given a bunch of money for a video.
They have just released the video for Ekki múkk, which is their tenth video release in this film experiment. The video stars Aidan Gillen of Littlefinger (from Game of Thrones) / Major Tommy Carcetti (from The Wire) fame. The video also has a smart snail, voiced by Shirley Collins, a UK folk singer. The film was directed by Nick Abrahams.
The Icelandic band notes on their website that the video is “a magical journey through an english field – this short is something of a taster for a feature film i have in development – a big thank you to everyone who threw themselves into this project, especially aidan gillen, tod the fox and shirley collins (the voice of the snail, who is one of britain’s greatest folk singers, you could do worse than seeking out her work).”
