Festival News: Lollapalooza Daily Lineup; Outside Lands Full Lineup; Sasquatch! Set Times; and All-Hologram Coachella
A bunch of festival news has been happening the past day, so rather than a bunch of small little posts, we thought we’d cram it all into one post – this way you can ignore one post instead of three. We’re here to help you ignore us easier.
Lollapalooza Sells Out Weekend Passes, Announces Daily Line Up
One of the benefits of the Coachella lineup announcement and poster is that it immediately shows you who is playing each day in the desert festival. Lollapalooza has a cool poster of bands from headliners in big font to early afternoon bands with the hard to read font size 8, but it doesn’t tell you who is playing when, which sucks if you can only make it for one day. They have now broken up the lineup for complainers like me, with set times to follow later (often a week before the festival). I wouldn’t be liking the Jack White vs. Florence + the Machine conflict on Sunday night.
The Lollapalooza website also notes that they are completely sold out of 3-day weekend passes, and only single day passes are left, for $95 each. Time to become a volunteer and not show up for your post if you want to see all 3 days (although they might catch on after Day 1).
Metallica, Foo Fighters, Stevie Wonder, Jack White, Neil Young & Crazy Horse for Outside Lands Music and Arts Festival in San Francisco
Golden Gate Park in San Francisco will be overrun by rock stars and fans August 10 through 12 for the Outside Lands Music and Arts Festival. I’m guessing it’s not an indoor festival, given the name. Bands appearing include the aforementioned Metallica, Foo Fighters, Stevie Wonder, Jack White, Neil Young & Crazy Horse, as well as Beck, Skrillex, Justice, The Kills, Bloc Party, Explosions in the Sky, Santigold, Big Boi, City and Colour, and many others. Check out the poster below and visit the website for more information. Tickets cost $195 for the weekend, and prices go up once the cheaper price level is sold out.
Sasquatch! Announces Set Times for May 25-28 Festival
Memorial Day weekend in the States sees a rock festival at the Gorge for 4 days. Well, now Sasquatch! has announced the set times on their website. It’s fitting that Said the Whale follows Black Whales on Saturday. Can Noah and the Whale play there, too? Conflicts on Saturday include Dum Dum Girls and Childish Gambino, while on Sunday we see M.Ward go up against Deer Tick and Tycho, Beirut vs. the end of The Walkmen vs. Apparat, and Bon Iver overlap James Murphy’s DJ set, and on Monday we have Feist and Shabazz Palaces, as well as SBTRKT vs. Spiritualized vs. Ted Leo and the Pharmacists vs. Tenacious D. Of course, the more bands you like, the more conflicts you have, so you could be much worse off than the small sample outlined above. Of course, a festival with TOO MANY choices is better than a festival with big gaps in the day to fill.
Check out the All-Hologram Coachella Line Up
Coachella is famous for having an amazing lineup, plus bringing big acts back for reunion shows. After Sunday’s headliners Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre, they are now known for bringing back the dead via holograms. Now we have the inevitable all-hologram Coachella festival lineup, via aux.tv and Stereogum. Basically, it’s a list of bands that have dead people, so it’s not that clever. And honestly, as much as I love Mozart (I don’t type that very often), there’s no way the Beatles would not be headlining any of the days. No love for Amy Winehouse? Apparently Tupac doesn’t get a second chance, either. Check it out below and then stay tuned for when the hologram concert series becomes as big as reality television did in the past decade.
