There has been significant debate about what The Stranglers’ 1981 song Golden Brown is about. In a 2001 book about the stranglers, lead singer Hugh Cornwall cryptically states that the song is “…about heroin and also about a girl. Essentially the lyrics describe how both provided me with pleasurable times”. Wiki

However, I think the top comment on Vevo’s YouTube page actually got it correct: @davisjr3: This song is about toast. Idiots.
