Not Your Usual Summary of the 2012 Grammys – Pranks, Jokes, and Bonnie Bear
Bon Iver Wins Best New Artist, Snub Grammys, Should Rename Himself Bonnie Bear
Last night, the 2012 Grammys took place. Like Bon Iver, I held out watching from watching them. Unlike Bon Iver, I did not win a Grammy. Bon Iver beat out more mainstream artists Nicki Minaj, J. Cole and Skrillex to knick the Best New Artist at the Grammys. This is awesome for a couple of reasons. The first is that this is Bon Iver’s second album, so fans are wondering why the hell he is now the best new artist. The second is because the Grammys approached Bon Iver to play the Grammys, but only if they did a collaboration. Singer Justin Vernon said this wouldn’t do – they should be recognized for the music they are nominated for, not some mishmash of tunes, so they said no.
Anyone remember last year, when Arcade Fire dominated the Grammys, which lead to the now infamous Tumblr, when people took to Twitter in outrage, asking Who the Fuck is Arcade Fire? Well, Bon Iver is this year’s Arcade Fire. Check out the collection of some of the best Twitter outrage below.
Foo Fighters Perform as Part of Electronic Dance Music Collaboration
Foo Fighters were one of the acts to perform the mandatory Grammys Collaborations segment of their show. They performed a segment with David Guetta, Lil Wayne, Chris Brown, and Deadmau5. Sound awkward? See if it is, in the video below (watch before the Grammy forces shut it down)

Deadmau5 Pranks Skrillex
So last night, Deadmau5 tweets “Congrats to @skrillex for best remix grammy, can’t say I’m not proud!”, followed by “But @skrillex , doesn’t mean you’re safe from getting the ultimate mau5 trolling experience, prepare! hahaha love u!” What did Deadmau5 do? He showed up to the Grammys in the t-shirt below:
The cell phone number? Skrillex’s, of course. How awesome is that?!
At least Skrillex took it in stride, saying “Haha @deadmau5 just wore my phone number on his fokin shirt on tv gotta retire this phone”
But think of all the girls you’ll get!
Amy Winehouse’s Parents Accept Her Grammy
Last summer, Amy Winehouse passed away at the age of 27. Last night, she was awarded with a Grammy for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance for Body and Soul, her song with Tony Bennett. Mitch and Janis Winehouse went up on stage with Tony Bennett to accept the award on her behalf.
“We shouldn’t be here. Our darling daughter should be here. These are the cards that we’re dealt,” said Mitch after he was called on stage by Bennett. He added: “Long live Whitney Houston, long live Amy Winehouse, Long live Etta James. There’s a beautiful girl band up in heaven.” Mitch raises a very good point.
Watch! Coldplay featuring Rihanna – Princess of China
I must say, I still dig this song.
Oh, You want to know the winners at the Grammys?
Awards shows aren’t about awards! If you must know, Adele won all the awards she was nominated for including ‘Record of the Year’, ‘Song of the Year’ and ‘Album of the Year’. The Foo Fighters won ‘Best Rock Album’ for Wasting Light, Best Rock Song for ‘Walk’ and ‘Best Hard Rock/Metal Performance’ for ‘White Limo’. Best Long Form Music Video’ for ‘Back and Forth’. Skrillex won both Best Dance Recording and Best Dance/Electronic Album, Kanye West won Best Rap/Sung Collaboration and Best Rap Song for All of the Lights, as well as Best Rap Album for his brilliant My Beautiful, Dark Twisted Fantasy.

[…] big question that was asked after the Grammys was Who the fuck is Bon Iver (or Bonnie Bear)? Another question, which I thought was a spoof of the Bon Iver thing, but apparently also trended, […]
