Rocketjuice and the Moon to Release Album in March – Band Includes Damon Albarn and Flea
3 months ago, we gave you a heads up not to gloss over a post discussing the (terribly named) Rocketjuice and the Moon, since the band includes 2 excellent musicians in Damon Albarn and Flea. News has now surfaced that the bands will be putting those live tracks we heard into a studio album, which should be out in March (via Consequence of Sound).
The album will reportedly be self-titled, meaning both album and band will have dreadful names. The album will reported have 18 tracks, and will also feature drummer Tony Allen, Erykah Badu, the Hypnotic Brass Ensemble, and more.
MOJO caught up with Flea, who explained the album began when the Damon, Tony, and Flea were on a plane in 2008. “The three of us were going to Lagos as part of Damon Albarn’s Africa Express collective. I’m a huge Fela Kuti fan and Tony Allen is one of my favorite drummers, so to get to talk and play with him was just phenomenal. The way I approach rhythm and groove is very similar to the way he does, and I feel with him a special something that is difficult to put into words but it’s a beautiful thing. By the end of that Lagos trip we’d made a promise to get in a room whenever we could and cook up some grooves, the only rule being we’d be fucking getting down and getting busy and making it hard.”
Sounds like a good rule.
