Creepiness Hits a New High with Highlight App
I have the Find Friends iPhone app. Once you have other friends who have the app, you can add one another, and find out where you are, at any time of the day. If you see your mate at your girlfriend’s house, well, hope he is asking for a cup of sugar and not calling her sugar. Another great location app is called Around Me, which I used in London to see how close the nearest pubs were to potential flats I was viewing, which was the number 1 requirement for my flat rental.
The newest in both location apps and finding people through social networks is called Highlight (via Tech Crunch). This app is both ingenious and creepy – it will tell you when Facebook users are near you that share either common friends or common interests with you. These are not necessarily people you know, just that they know a friend of yours, or they both share your obsession with The Sopranos. Think of the creepy match making potential!
You can see the Facebook profile pics of who is near you, seeing what traits or friends you share, and have the option of messaging them. Some uses of Highlight include having built in icebreakers to chat up women, helping you remember that guy’s name you always forget, messaging friends when you’re in the same area as them, and general stalking. Did I mention the app is a touch creepy? But the potential of the creepiness is what makes it an app you should check out.
