Friday Afternoon Funnies: Noel Gallagher Discusses Man City’s Recent Win
Manchester United (my favourite team) have pretty much dominated English football (note: soccer) for the past two decades. Manchester City, their cross town rivals, have not. Until last year, they have not won anything of significance for quite some time. Manchester United fans even had a banner pointing this fact to everyone. To common people, United are the New York Yankees (note: not an 100% fair claim), while Man City are more of a working man’s and true Manchester residents team. The Gallagher brothers are famous fans of Man City, often posing in their jerseys, while Liam did a recent (TERRIBLE) Umbro ad with Beady Eye for Man City, which I have included below. Is he checking the price tag of the jersey?! And what’s with the phony Man City praise at the beginning? Anyway, Man City were recently bought by a billionaire, and have now become ‘The New York Yankees’, by buying a team of superstars and becoming hated by neutral fans everywhere.
The reason for this preamble is that defending league champions Manchester United played Man City on Sunday. And United were destroyed 6-1, a famous victory that fans won’t forget until they die. On the same day, it was announced that Noel Gallagher had the number one album in the UK. Can you say best day ever for Noel?
BBC Sport caught up with Noel Gallagher, and in typical Noel fashion, he had a few wise cracks for the pundits. Some of the jokes are for football fans only, but it’s still an enjoyable listen.
