HMV Executive Thinks CD Will Be Dead in 5 Years

Simon Fox from HMV thinks that the CD will be dead in 5 years (via Gigwise). I love his optimism – did he write the letter on his typewriter or call it in from his landline? The CD has been on a steady decline of sales since 2004, with digital media (and of course, piracy) taking up a lot of the market share. CDs now regularly act as drink coasters for expensive coffee tables at homes across North America.

Smells Like Teen Spirit, On Loop, for Art

Every year, Toronto hosts the generally excellent all-night City art project, Nuit Blanche. This year, it happens Saturday October 1 at sundown and goes until Sunday at sunrise. Surprisingly (to me at least), tens of thousands of people flood the streets at all hours of the night, checking out the vibrant art and performance exhibits across the City. This year, one of the exhibits will be the performance of Nirvana’s Smells Like Teen Spirit – 144 times! (via Spinner) The show will be performed by people including members of Tokyo Police Club, Fucked Up, Woodhands, Gallows and Junior Battles along with Buck 65. It all takes place at Toronto Underground Cinema (186 Spadina Ave). You can try your hand at getting famous, too, as the night is essentially open mic at times. Me – I want the cheerleading dance part in the music video. I will NAIL that dance, dammit!

Bob Seger ends iTunes Holdout

Bob Seger has ended his iTunes holdout! (via The Hollywood Reporter). If a tree falls, and no one is around to hear it…..Well, at least Chief Wiggum will be happy (provided it’s not Bob Sagat he’s really seeing).

Zooey Deschanel: Coming to a TV Near You

She & Him singer Zooey Deschanel has landed a starring role on upcoming Fox sitcom, New Girl. In fact, she wrote the theme song. Sounds a lot like how Will Smith started his career. I did notice in the video below that Zooey is not wearing her wedding ring – perhaps her marriage to Death Cab for Cutie singer, Ben Gibbard, is in trouble. Rumour: started!
