Morning Music Notes – Gallagher Brotherly Hatred
Another Stage Tragedy, This Time in Belgium
It seems like all bad things, stage collapses come in threes. First, there was the Ottawa Bluesfest stage crumbling in early July. Last weekend, it was the stage for the Sugarland concert. Yesterday, there was a storm at Belgium’s Pukkelpop music festival, which has killed 5 people and injured 70 others. No one should die at a rock concert, and sadly, this summer hasn’t been too kind to the festival goers.
The headline acts at the festival, about 80km east of Brussels, were Foo Fighters, Eminem and the Offspring, with about 60,000 people in attendance yesterday.
Lead singer of 30 Seconds To Mars, Jared Leto, was scheduled to perform tonight, and wrote on his own Twitter feed: “FOUR STAGES DOWN – STILL RAINING + THUNDER IF YOU ARE HERE PLEASE BE SAFE.”
NME has tweets of other bands’ reactions, including the Foo Fighters, Friendly Fires, and Fleet Foxes (woah, three bands with F.F. initials).
Do engineers need to take another look at stage designs? Do festival organizers need to have protocol for severe weather warnings or unpredictable storm arrivals?
Who Didn’t See This Coming – Liam Sues Brother Noel
The brothers Gallagher have been proving that this break is not amicable, by trading a word of wars through the press. Noel originally accused Liam for the Oasis break up, by shilling his Pretty Green clothing line (loved by looters across Manchester) on tour. Noel also said Liam was hungover and lied about having laryngitis when he cancelled a tour date at V Festival in 2009. Come on boys, what happens on tour, stays on tour. Perhaps in an attempt to recoup his Pretty Green looting losses, Liam Gallagher has launched a lawsuit against his brother Noel on the basis of a lie for the hangover claim (via Gigwise).
Liam has said: “That is a lie and I want Oasis fans to know the truth. I was gutted when I couldn’t play the gig because I didn’t want to let the fans down. The truth is I had laryngitis, diagnosed by a doctor, preventing me performing that night.”
The Oasis reunion tour should be great, though.
First Listen: Kasabian featuring LL Cool J – Days are Forgotten
PHM presented the surprising news of LL Cool J collaborating with Kasabian. Well, Kasabian have now posted the audio for the song, Days are Forgotten. The song is a b-side to the single of the same song. LL Cool J liked the original so much (?!) and contacted the band to feature on the remix, which was done by DJ Z-Trip. I read that Samuel L Jackson did the same thing to get in the second Star Wars trilogy, constantly saying that George Lucas was a director that he wanted to work with. Judge for yourself if the Days are Forgotten remix is more Episode 1 or Episode 5.
