Morning Music Notes – End of Days Edition

With the holidays (and that apocalypse) upon us, things are winding down here at PeteHatesMusic. We’re making today our last Morning Music Notes of the year. We’ll follow up with our Top Tracks of 2012 today, our Top Albums of 2012 tomorrow, and a few other random posts to watch out for over the holidays. Enjoy your holidays (if you don’t enjoy the apocalypse first).

The Black Keys’ Drummer, Patrick Carney, to Host SiriusXM Show

Patrick Carney is following in the footsteps of fellow drummer Dave Grohl and will be backing Paul McCartney hosting a show on SiriusXM (via Consequence of Sound). Will he be reading night time children’s stories? Sadly, no – but this is better. He’ll be on Channel 35 SiriusXMU, hosting a show called Serious Boredom, which will debut tonight at 8PM EST, and air the first Thursday of every month starting in 2013. Carney, who produced the Tennis album earlier this year, will play his favourite indie artists from today and years past.

Hurricane Sandy Benefit Album Not on Spotify

Should a charity album be on music streaming service, Spotify? Or should people buy it because it, you know, supports a charity. The Robin Hood Relief Fund and associated release label Columbia Records have decided to pass on Spotify for their Hurricane Sandy Tribute Concert album and hope that you purchase the album and help the proceeds by paying for it upfront (via Digital Music News).

The strategy is likely to ‘force’ people to buy the album for the first few weeks, before offering it up to streaming services in the future, if at all. In 2 months though, will anyone remember the Hurricane Sandy Tribute concert?
