Morning Music Notes – No Need for Singing

Lies and false news can be dangerous; even more dangerous in the age of the internet. Well, it turns out yesterday’s reports of XBox Music jumped the gun a little bit, reports NME. Basically, Microsoft are expanding their iPod Killer Zune music marketplace to 11 million tracks. Any other lies and false hope that you wish to provide, Microsoft??

Who Needs Lyrics? The Future Belongs to the Mutes

Digital Music News did the legwork for me, and looked at the album sales for the first half of the year 2011
(I use a different calendar, but am agreeable to calling it 2011).

“The three largest-growing formats by album were Classical, Electronic, and New Age, in that order (by percentage increase). In fact, according to Nielsen Soundscan, they were 3 of only 5 genres to increase, and the only genres growing in the double-digits.”

“These are US-based, album-only sales, and let’s face it: Classical remains an embattled category. But the growth story on Electronica remains explosive. Subgenres like Dance, Progressive House, Drum and Bass, Electro-Hardcore, and Trip Hop are drawing thousands at festivals like EDC, and millions of fresh listeners worldwide.”

So for people, like myself, who cannot sing and get beer bottles thrown at us during kareoke nights – there is hope for us yet to be classical music stars.

Listen to a new track from The Drums – Or Don’t

As reported previously by those handsome devils at PHM, The Drums have a new album called Portamento. What you likely did not know is the tracklisting for Portamento, which Gigwise has obtained. If you did know it, well, I suspect that you were the trespasser The Drums were complaining about, and shame on you. Hopefully your tracklisting info looks like this:

‘Days’
‘What You Were’
‘Money’
‘Hard To Love’
‘I Don’t Know How To Love’
‘Searching For Heaven’
‘Please Don’t Leave’
‘If He Likes It Let Him Do It’
‘I Need A Doctor’
‘In The Cold’
‘How It Ended’
