Morning Music Notes – Hot Pockets, Destroying Music One Song at a Time

Electronic producers Simian Mobile Disco have a new track called Tong Zi Dan. Exactly who or what is Tong Zi Dan? It’s apparently a “Chinese delicacy usually translated as “virgin boy eggs”. Like the tea stained eggs youʼll find in your ramen, these are eggs cracked part way through the boiling process, to let the flavours of the liquid seep through.” Does the song sound like this? Um, maybe?

The vinyl release for this track came out on Monday, while the digital release is on the 21st. Check out the latest delicacy that the group have experienced in their touring years.

The “feud of the century” involved Kanye West and some once fat late night talk show host Jimmy Kimmel. Kimmel ran a skit a few weeks ago that made fun of an interview Kanye did with BBC’s Zane Lowe. Kanye didn’t like it and freaked out on Twitter. Kanye then showed up on Kimmel’s show last night, didn’t destroy everything, and gave a lengthy and poignant interview. Honest! Check it out below, and look for some instant classic quotes. “Do you really think I look like Sponge Bob?!”

The real victim of the spat? Arctic Monkeys! They had to postpone their scheduled appearance on Kimmel because Kanye West would not shut up (via NME)

So what’s up with the Beats Music music subscription service? Leaked details say it will be paid only (no freebies), and will feature an impressive music discovery component. Who needs that when people have PeteHatesMusic? (via Hypebot)

Guess who showed up at a Queens high school in New York? Some Sir Paul McCartney guy. He played 13 tracks, and answered questions from the kids. Did they even know who he was? The show was filmed and will air on Monday, October 14 (via Rolling Stone)

Do you remember when Snoop Dogg ruined one of his own songs – Drop It Like It’s Hot – in the name of advertising, specifically for Hot Pockets. Almost one year later, Snoop is at it again, this time with model Kate Upton. The song that gets butchered in the name of a filled heated crusty snack? Biz Markie and Just a Friend. Man, is the new chorus a stretch from the original. Awful. But it did get us talking about Hot Pockets (and how I’ll never buy one).
