Morning Music Notes – Ding Dong

Margaret Thatcher’s Death Might Shake Up the Music Charts

Britain’s one and only female prime minister has passed away. A large number of people didn’t like Margaret Thatcher’s policies, often calling her Iron Lady or a witch. People are celebrating marking her death by trying to get Ding Dong! The Witch is Dead to number one in the charts (via Guardian). The Facebook campaign group has been around for awhile, but has renewed interested in sending the Ella Fitzgerald version of the Wizard of Oz song up the charts. According to Music Week, there are 3 versions of the track in the charts right now – Judy Garland at #54, Ella Fitzgerald at #146, and The Munchkins at #183. What about the Naked Gun version?

Episode 2 of Daft Punk’s Random Access Memories Video Series

Episode 2 of the Creators Project’s focus on Daft Punk and the interviews behind the Random Access Memories album is now out. Episode 1 featured Giorgio Moroder and was quite fascinating. Episode 2 has collaborator Todd Edwards. The video talks about the band wanting to “pick up a West Coast vibe” such as Fleetwood Mac and The Eagles for their new album. This could be disasterous! interesting. Surprising: Todd didn’t know you used different mics for different instruments – and he’s been a producer for 20 years?

Beyonce Takes on Fashion Honorary Chair

Hoping to rebound from her not so popular trip down to Cuba, Beyonce will be the honorary chair at the Costume’s Institute Gala. What the fuck is that you say? She will help welcome the Met Costume Institute event Punk: Chaos to Couture that opens on May 9 (via Hollywood Reporter). The event is known as the Oscars of the fashion industry, and I have never heard of it.
