Beastie Boys State the Obvious, Want Lawsuit Against Them Dropped

The Beastie Boys are being sued for sampling – I never thought I’d see the day. A band called Trouble Funk have alleged that the Beastie Boys illegally used two of their tracks on four of their tunes (via NME). The tracks in question are Shadrach and Car Thief from 1989 album Paul’s Boutique, and from their 1986 first album, the tracks Hold It, Now Hit It and The New Style. Nothing like waiting over 20 years to drop the lawsuit.

The Beastie Boys actually make the same claim that I just did – they think the gap between the songs and the lawsuit is too long, as well as the samples being buried and not obvious to the casual listener. They want the lawsuit to be dropped, and I think everyone should hug it out.

Pussy Riot Documentary to Premiere at 2013 Sundance Film Festival

Recent TIME magazine Person of the Year shortlistees, Pussy Riot, will have a documentary about them debut at the 2013 edition of the Sundance Film Festival (via Consequence of Sound).

The documentary is called Pussy Riot – A Punk Prayer, and is directed by Mike Lerner and Maxim Pozdorovkin. The film outlines their arrest and the subsequent trial of Nadezhda Tolokonnikova, Maria Alekhina, and Yekaterina Samutsevich. 2 of the band members currently still sit in jail in what is generally viewed as a great injustice of free speech. The Sundance Film Festival takes place in Russia Utah, and runs from January 17th to 27th.

Come Play a Skrillex Video Game, Skrillex Quest

For those of you old enough to play the original Nintendo, you will recall the problem you had starting some of the games. This was often because of dust bunnies getting onto the cartridge, and then sometimes the game would work, but sometimes it would sort of work, albeit with screwed up graphics. Skrillex has combined his memories of this and a Zelda-esque came in an online game called Skrillex Quest.

The game’s creator, Jason Oda said on Facebook, “Several months ago I was commissioned to make a game for Skrillex. It was a ton of work and a completely frustrating bullshit-fest along the way but I am so happy to say that the game is finally, finally officially live! I’m super proud of it and really hope you check it out. I really think it’s the best game I’ve ever done. Remember blowing the dust out of your NES cartridges when they glitched? This game is all about that from the perspective of the people within the game.”

Of course, Skrillex tunes soundtrack the game. Waste away your Friday by playing the game here.

Florence Welch Joins Rolling Stones on Stage in London

Florence Welch from Florence + the Machine joined Mick Jagger and the other lads from the Rolling Stones at their gig in London last night, for the track Gimme Shelter. Fan-made footage has hit the interwebs, and you can see a video of them singing and dancing below. Moves like Florence Welch will be the next big Maroon 5 song, you just watch. Florence took over the role that Mary J Blige had the previous show. Check it out below.

Watch! Foxygen – Shuggie

The American indie band, Foxygen, have a cool name and a new video. The track is Shuggie, which reminds me of a snuggie, which makes me want to crawl back into bed.

Nothing like watching a music video where someone gives birth. Note to self: don’t have babies. Oh yeah, I’m a dude, so I can’t (unless the technology in that Arnold Schwarzenegger documentary becomes widespread reality). But wait – the woman isn’t birthing a baby! Oh, the twists and turns. The band’s new album, We Are the 21st Century Ambassadors of Peace & Magic, is out on Janaury 22.
