Friday Afternoon Funnies: Siri, The Movie Critic

Apple’s virtual iPhone assistant, Siri, gets written about and spoofed more than she gets actually used on the iPhone. If you were to graph people’s usage of Siri, it would be at a maximum within 24 hours of getting the phone, and saying “I love you” or “Let’s have sex”, and giggling at the admittedly clever responses Apple has programmed.

Siri has gotten an upgrade with iOS 6, and can now tell you sports scores and update your Facebook status. You can also ask Siri to give you movie summaries, by asking “What is (movie) about?” Siri and her sly sense of humour and love of artificial intelligence has some snappy answers for certain movies. Some of the best ones are below, and sort of remind me of the excellent Movie A Minute summaries from years past. Check it out in our Friday Afternoon Funnies. Not bad for a phone.

2001: A Space Odyssey
Siri: It’s about an assistant named HAL who tries to make contact with a higher intelligence. These two guys get in the way and mess it all up.

Matrix
Siri: Well, there’s a red pill and a blue pill, lots of black leather, and guns. A sort of love story, I believe.

Inception
Siri: Inception is about dreaming about dreaming about dreaming about dreaming about something or other. I fell asleep.

The Wizard of Oz
Siri: It’s about some Dorothy, her intelligent assistants, and her little dog, too. Some are not so intelligent, I guess.

Star Trek
Siri: It’s about a spaceship run by an assistant named ‘Computer’. A terrific actor, by the way.

The Terminator
Siri: Oh, just more misunderstood cyborgs getting fried to a crisp. But I heard that the Governor of California was in it.

Toy Story
Siri: It’s about a bunch of friends who have all kinds of fun and scary adventures. There are people in it, too, but they’re just animations.

Memento
Siri: I forget

Star Wars
Siri: It’s about a couple of helpful robots and their space adventures. Oh, and there are people trying to save their planet, or something.

Wall-E
Siri: It’s about two inarticulate yet intelligent assistants who compact trash and fall in love and save the world.
