20 Year Old Dies At V Festival; The Killers Cover Oasis

The semi-colon is ever-so important in the headline, as it looks like the killers of a 20 year old decided to cover Oasis at V Fest. In fact, they are 2 separate events – one tragic, one the opposite of tragic (I can’t find my thesaurus). The sad: at England’s annual V Festival, a 20 year old has died at Staffordshire (via Spinner). The man’s name hasn’t been released, and the death is being treated as “unexplained.”

“We are all very saddened by this tragic incident, and we want to extend our deepest sympathies to the family of this young man,” said a V Festival spokesman. “Our team worked throughout the night to support those affected at the festival site and we want to thank everyone for their co-operation and support during the incident.”

The Killers were one of the performers, playing hits from their upcoming Battle Born album. But they also had time to turn out an Oasis classic, as Oasis was the band that inspired Brandon Flowers to go into music. Some people claim Oasis’ music inspired them to jump in front of buses. Although the beginning is cut off, this version of Don’t Look Back in Anger is better quality than the others floating around YouTube. Ignore the out-of-focus and crazy camera movement parts.

NASA Played The Beatles and The Doors to Wake Up Mars Curiosity Robot, While It Dreamed of Britney Spears

While you were watching the Olympics, NASA was busy landing robots on Mars. The remote-controlled Mars Curiosity robot had a wake up playlist of Good Morning Good Morning by The Beatles, Got The Time by Anthrax, Break On Through by the Doors, and Frank Sinatra’s Come Fly With Me (via NME). What, no 30 Seconds to Mars?! Not even the Mars Volta?

Remember that Britney Spears video, Oops I Did It Again, in which she wears a red catsuit that makes my brain melt? Well, it was filmed “on Mars” (wink wink), and the ever-so scientific Britney Spears asked the robot via Twitter, “So @MarsCuriosity… does Mars look the same as it did in 2000?” The robot replied, because it wasn’t busy discovering life on Mars, and said “Hey Brit Brit. Mars is still looking good. Maybe someday an astronaut will bring me a gift, too. Drill bits crossed”

There’s nothing like flirting on Twitter with robots, is there? Yes, sex with robots

Madonna’s Hate-Hate Relationship with Russia

As you likely know by now, Russian band Pussy Riot have been jailed for 2 years for religious hatred when performing a anti-Vladmir Putin punk prayer against the Russian Church. Madonna took to her Facebook account to call out on the ridiculous verdict.

“I protest the conviction and sentencing of Pussy Riot to a penal colony for two years for a 40 second performance extolling their political opinions. Even if one disagrees with the location or how they chose to express themselves, the sentence is too harsh and in fact is inhumane. I call on all those who love freedom to condemn this unjust punishment. I urge artists around the world to speak up in protest against this travesty. They’ve spent enough time in jail. I call on ALL of Russia to let Pussy Riot go free.”

In an unrelated incident, a Russian anti-gay activist group has sued Madonna for $10 million (via Yahoo). Homosexuality was a crime act in the Soviet Union, and then Russia, until 1993. Madonna spoke out at a gay rights concert in St. Petersburg last week, performing in black lingerie with the words “No Fear” on her back. No, the lame North American “No Fear” brand is not back, but Madonna was trying to tell the gay community to not be afraid. A group of people have sued her for “insulting their feelings”, which would make me a million if I could sue all the bullies from my high school.

“She (Madonna) had been warned with words that she should behave in line with the law and she ignored it. So we will speak in the language of money,” said Darya Dedova, one of the 10 activists who filed the lawsuit. “Of course, it is difficult to measure moral damages and suffering but maybe people who earn money regardless of moral rules will better understand this.”

Another activist, Alexei Kolotkov, said “Maybe someone does not see the link but after Madonna’s concert maybe some boy becomes gay, some girl becomes lesbian, fewer children are born as a result and this big country cannot defend its borders – for me it causes moral suffering.”

Um, oooooooookay then.

John Lennon Killer Up for Parole; Lennon’s Tooth Used in Art Work

The bastard that took John Lennon from this planet, Mark David Chapman, is up for parole for a 7th time (via Yahoo). He shot and killed Lennon back in December 1980, and will have a hearing for New York state’s Department of Corrections. He has had a parole hearing every 2 years since 2000, and has been (rightly) denied parole. His sentence is 20 years to life in prison, hence the parole hearings. Yoko Ono has previously written letters about her fear of him being in the public. I would think that he should be afraid of being in the public, as I foresee a Beatles’ fan pummelling him to death.

Dentist Michael Zuk purchased a fragment of John Lennon’s tooth for $32,000 last November. Seems like a reasonable purchase. However, he has given this fragment to his sister, Kirsten Zuk, who has used it in John Lennon DNA sculpture for her show in Edmonton, Alberta (via Rolling Stone). This instantly makes the sculpture have significant value, and I’m sure Michael will easily recover his money, while Mark David Chapman will try and hunt down the tooth if granted parole.

Good News: Limp Bizkit Are Done. Bad News: 98 Degrees are Back

I’m not going to waste my time (and yours) by talking about 2 bands that neither of us care for. But I’ll let you know that Fred Durst has said Limp Bizkit are done, which has surprised everyone, as people thought they were done about 10 years ago. They haven’t broken up, but have admitted defeat. Hooray!

Boy (and now man) band 98 Degrees have reunited, following other bands like Backstreet Boys and New Kids on the Block that clearly need money. LISTEN TO THEIR NEW SINGLE BELOW!!
