Morning Music Notes – Lily Rose Cooper By Any Other Name Would Smell Just As Sweet

Olympic Wrap Up: Muse, Elton John, Ed Sheeran, and Pink Floyd (Do NOT Form a Super Group)

Muse have dropped a bit of a bombshell on us – they almost collaborated with Elton John on their Olympic song, Survival (via NME). Speaking to LA Radio stadio KROQ, Matt Bellamy said “Believe it or not, Elton John gave us a call and wanted to write a song for the Olympics. At one time Elton John was actually the director of the music for the Olympics. He contacted us and we thought ‘This is far out! We’re going to do a song for the Olympics with Elton John?!’So that’s how the ball started rolling way back over a year ago. But then he pulled out of the Olympics. He didn’t want to be involved anymore cause he fell out with the organisers so that left us with a half-baked idea. At that point we just let it go and carried on with making the album. And then the Olympics approached us again about the ending ceremony for us to play and that’s when we played them that song and they said they loved it and wanted to make it an official song of some kind.”

This quote is interesting because if you listen to the lyrics of Survival, you would think that it was written specifically written for the Olympics, not that it was chosen by the Olympics after the fact. Also interesting: I don’t know who Elton John is. Muse have also delayed the release of The 2nd Law until October 2, just because they can.

Yesterday, there were crazy rumours involving that Ron Weasley twin, Ed Sheeran, saying he was doing a performance of Wish You Were Here with Pink Floyd at the Olympic Closing Ceremonies. I didn’t run this story, because it just reeked of ridiculousness. Well, it turns out I am smarter than most media outlets – Pink Floyd have denied this is going to happen (via Gigwise). In a statement, they said exactly what I said in the previous sentence, “In response to press speculation, Pink Floyd state that the band is NOT performing at the Closing Ceremony of the London 2012 Olympic Games.” Ed Sheeran, the little shit disturber, said that it is only drummer Nick Mason appearing with him.

Lily Allen is Now Lily Rose Cooper

British singer Lily Allen is changing her stage name to that of her married name. She married Sam Cooper and will now be Lily Rose Cooper (via Spinner). She is also working on a follow up album to 2009’s It’s Not Me, It’s You, which just happens to be the sentence I hear the most from girls. Well, excluding “Get out of that tree or I’m calling the police.”

Kanye West’s G.O.O.D. Music Reveal Cruel Summer Album Artwork – It’s Fancy

Kanye West has tweeted the new album artwork for the G.O.O.D. Music compilation album, Cruel Summer. The record is due for release on September 4, and should probably be renamed Cruel Autumn to be relevant. The album looks a bit like the Riccardo Tisci designed Watch the Throne album cover, minus the gold and stuff.

Listen! My Morning Jacket – Outta My System (Washed Out Remix)

Kentucky rockers and American Dad-starring band, My Morning Jacket, are about to release an EP (that isn’t spell checker friendly) called Outta My System – Remixez Y Friendz. One tune on the EP is a remix of Outta My System done by Washed Out. We get a very unique take on the song, with some samples of someone talking about the conscience and other things I should’ve paid attention to in Philosophy 101. Listen to the track below, and grab the digital EP on August 7.
