New Deftones Album in October

October is shaping up to be a good month for music for me (and for all of us). We heard yesterday about the new Stereophonics album due that month. Now we find out that Sacramento hard rock band Deftones also have a long-awaited new album (their 7th) out that month as well (via nme.com).

Deftones are a pretty heavy band. They probably don’t sound like a lot of the bands you hear at PeteHatesMusic. The main reason I still listen to them now, just like I did sixteen years ago, is because they aren’t heavy all the time, they have a lot of different sides to them. They can do the quieter melodic stuff too, and each new album never fails to impress me.

Lead singer Chino Moreno describes the new record as “very dynamic” and says that it will be a combination of “beauty” and “straight, ruthless aggression”. Check out one of Deftones less-heavy tunes, Change (In the House of Flies), off 2000’s White Pony album:
