The Wire: The Musical – Turning A Gritty Drama into a Spoof Funny or Die Video

A few years ago, I had never heard of HBO’s gritty police and drug dealer drama, The Wire. When I talked to people, they had either a) never heard of it (95%) or b) heard of it and said it was “the best show they have ever seen.” Basically, anyone that has seen it thought it was the best show ever – no middle ground. I gave up after watching 5 semi-slow episodes. After more badgering, I gave it another shot a year later. Now I agree, it’s the best show (not named The Sopranos) that I have seen.

The Wire ended after 5 seasons back in 2008. However, some of the cast of the Wire, such as Omar Little (Michael K. Williams – who is playing Ol’ Dirty Bastard in the new biopic), Bubbles, D’Angelo Barksdale, Snoop, Greggs, and “Jimmy McNulty”, all make an appearance in a spoof musical video done for Will Ferrell’s Funny or Die website. I’m a big fan of the “burners” segment. If you’re a fan of the show, you’ll likely enjoy some of the humour and spoofs, which turns the harsh world of the Wire to a Broadcast, family musical.
