Morning Music Notes – Hitchhiking is a Great Way to Meet People, and To Have Sex

Rock the Bells Line Up Features Missy Elliott and Timbaland, Nas, Wiz Khalifa, and um, Salt-n-Pepa

Rock the Bells is hitting up 3 cities this year – San Bernardino (Aug 18 & 19) and Mountain View (Aug 26 & 27) in California, and Holmdel, New Jersey on September 1 & 2. Forgive me if I can that it would probably take me a few minutes to find some of these “cities” on a map – I’ve never even heard of Holmdel – I would’ve guessed it was in Sweden. The line up of the rap festival features the somewhat surprisingly headliners of Missy Elliott and Timbaland – can you say “new album”? They also nabbed the movie star Ice Cube, who is taking a break from his Disney career. Also on deck are Nas, A$AP Rocky, Lupe Fiasco, Kid Cudi, Wiz Khalifa, Method Man and Redman playing Blackout! from top to bottom, and Bone Thugs-N-Harmony playing E. 1999 Eternal all the way through. Hopefully you like those albums! Salt-n-Pepa, who are still apparently in the music industry, are also showing up. Don’t miss it!

The Pirate Bay Attacked – Perhaps By Anonymous?

Internet drama amongst illegal internet sites and activities! As we mentioned last week, the (illegal) torrent site, Pirate Bay, condemned the Internet hacking group, Anonymous’ attack on the Virgin Media website in the UK. Those of you who have had trouble getting the latest episode of Game of Thrones (or in my case, the finale of Desperate Housewives) from the Pirate Bay will now know why – they have been victim of a Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attack (via Slash Gear). This DDoS attack has left the site mainly inaccessible for the past 24 hours. Obvious payback, or a coincidence? I’m a gambling man and I am NOT betting on coincidence. However, I did bet on

Here We Go Magic Picks Up A Hitchhiker, Who Happened to Be Director John Waters

Canadians may remember last summer, when the snow finally melted NHL hockey player Gilbert Brule picked up a hitchhiking Bono in Vancouver. Another hitchhiking story has ended in MURDER made headlines – Here We Go Magic picked up filmmaker John Waters (via Stereogum). You want proof? Well, here are the tweets, and since that isn’t enough (in a court of law), how about a picture?

John Waters (via @HereWeGoMagic)

Apparently John is an avid hitchhiker, saying “it’s a great way to meet people, and to have sex”. I think he means if you’re a creepy driver, though. John is destined to the end of the I-70 in the States, so wish him luck reaching it, and having sex.

Aaron Sorkin to Write Steve Jobs Movie

You know that Steve Jobs movie that is starring everyone’s favourite Oscar-snubbed actor, Ashton Kutcher? Well, this story isn’t about that. There’s another Steve Jobs movie being made, simply called “Steve Jobs” – they really reached into the well of original ideas for that title. They now have a screenwriter – Aaron Sorkin (via MTV). Aaron Sorkin is known for his work on TV’s The West Wing, as well as recent Hollywood hits, Moneyball and The Social Network. The Steve Jobs movie is based on the Walter Isaacson biography of the same name.

Watch! Childish Gambino – We Ain’t Them

Donald Glover’s Childish Gambino rap moniker has a new song. You can download We Ain’t Them from his website, or you can listen to the YouTube upload by some random person on the Internet, which I’ve embedded below. There seems to be a lot of talk around everything Donald does. Some call him fake, some call him clever, some call him privileged, and some call him late for dinner, which he HATES. I think he’s pretty clever with most of his lyrics, his flow is improving, and I would definitely keep your eyes and ears on him. Plus he kind of went crazy on Twitter, like Kanye West often does, so props to that. Anyway, give We Ain’t Them a listen – and give me these web hits you promised, Donald!
