Morning Music Notes – I’m So Important, I’m Paying Money to Ensure You See What I’m Writing on Facebook

New Orleans’ Voodoo Experience to be Headlined by Green Day, Neil Young & Crazy Horse, Skrillex and others

The first wave of acts have been announced for the Voodoo Experience, set for October 26-28 in New Orleans. Acts will include Green Day, Neil Young & Crazy Horse, Skrillex, Justice, Awolnation, K’naan, and others, with more acts to be added (or else you’d have a really short fesitval or some epically long set times). New for this year: on-site camping! No fancy hotels for you.

More Festival News: Bonnaroo Announces Set Times

Manchester, England um, Tennessee plays host to the lovely, annual Bonnaroo festival, which takes place June 7-10 this year, and runs through to the reasonable hour of 4am some nights. Now you can plan your sleepless nights – the 2012 schedule has been posted over at the Bonnaroo website. Two Door Cinema Club clashes with Laura Marling, Feist and Ludacris clearly share the same fanbase and will create conflicts, expect Thom Yorke to crash Flying Lotus’ set a couple hours after Radiohead finish their set on Saturday at midnight, and City and Colour, the Antlers, and the Beach Boys have a Sunday afternoon battle for your attention. Why are the Beach Boys playing at 3pm? I’m guessing the sun is a major prop that they need.

Head Over to London’s Spitalfields Market for the Independent Label Market to See Hot Chip Selling Stuff

Before moving to London, I hadn’t heard of Spitalfields Market. I actually stumbled upon it purely by chance, and have gone back several time to get some awesome t-shirts and stuff to eat. I’ll be heading there this Saturday, as indie record labels will have stalls set up. Labels will include XL, Rough Trade, Domino, and more will take part in the Independent Label Market event (via NME). Artists will also be there, such as Hot Chip, Tim Burgess, Edwyn Collins, and others, as labels push their vinyl, and other swag. Check out the website for the full list of goodies and labels that will be making an appearance.

Would You Pay To Show Off a Facebook Status? Facebook thinks so

Most Facebook status updates are pretty useless. “T-minus 5 days until vacation,” “Why isn’t it sunny outside?”, or “Check out 15 adorable pictures of my cat!” Okay, that last one is pretty good. But some updates ARE useful and might slip through the cracks and be missed by your friends. And since Facebook is about showing off informing your friends of your major events, perhaps you want to ensure every last friend sees your all-important status update. Well, now Facebook is testing an option where you can pay a few dollars to make sure friends see your selected “important post” (via Tech Crunch). This is only going to be available for individual users, not pages/businesses, so you won’t see PeteHatesMusic flooding your news feed (unfortunately). Me, on the other hand….

The official Facebook statement reads “We’re constantly testing new features across the site. This particular test is simply to gauge people’s interest in this method of sharing with their friends.” Read: we’re seeing if people actually pay for this shit, and then we might roll it out. Basically, Facebook is bringing spam to your news feed. Expect to see people flogging their services or products (not PHM though….), or perhaps what Facebook clearly needs – MORE BABY PICTURES! Hopefully this does not take off.

Watch! Willie Nelson Covers Pearl Jam (again)

Willie Nelson has just released Heroes, which features a whack of guest stars, such as Eddie Vedder, Sheryl Crow, Snoop Dogg, and others. Willie Nelson does a version of Pearl Jam’s Just Breathe on the record, and you can hear him do a live version of the song, with his son, Lukas. Check it out below, and pray that you look as good as Willie Nelson when you’re also 150 year old. Also, how is it that Luksas sounds older than his Dad when he sings?!
