Camden Crawl Critical Conclusions for….The Milk (2012 Camden Crawl Review)

PeteHatesMusic is at the 2012 Camden Crawl, and giving a gig by gig review as they happen. Below is our Camden Crawl Critical Conclusions for….The Milk. PeteHatesMusic should be running an interview with The Milk later this month, so stay tuned for that.

Venue: KOKO

First Impressions: 2 guitars and a bass – no live horns? Was looking forward to those. They were louder than I thought they would be, knowing their singles; more like a “proper rock band”. Great vocals though.

Stage Presence: 9/10 – booming vocals. Rock star confidence and swagger.

Crowd Reaction: 8.5/10 – The band doesn’t take breaks between songs, which meant the applause was muted. However, more and more people were dancing and swinging as the set progressed.

Banter: 7/10 – only chatted at the beginning and the end. This band noted it was gig 2 of 3, and since this is the year of the Olympics, it’s all about stamina.

They also explained how they play like its a DJ set with no breaks, the beat won’t stop, but feel free to express yourselves (read: PLEASE clap for us).

Number of times they said their band name: Twice, a new record for today.

Water/alcohol/neither: Some water, and some cans of beer – first band to drink!

The Last Word: 8.5/10 – Amazing vocals. Upbeat songs that lifted the mood of the gloomy day. The crowd seemed to enjoy it, and the band looks and sounds like a seasoned band. And wouldn’t you know it – it was sunny when I left the KOKO – very fitting

Since we both like spending our weekends walking around Camden discovering bands, how about you “follow PeteHatesMusic on Twitter” and “Like PeteHatesMusic on Facebook” to ensure we help each other a) discover cool new bands and b) not pass out in a ditch in Camden.
