MCA 1964-2012 (plus Twitter Reactions)

Legendary rap band, and recent inductees into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, the Beastie Boys have lost one of their members – Adam Yauch aka MCA has died at the age of 47 (via Rolling Stone). This is terribly sad news and is a major downer heading into the weekend. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family, other members of the Beastie Boys, and their friends. MCA skipped their induction ceremony due to the cancer he was fighting since 2009. The treatment meant the delay of their album, The Hot Sauce Committee, which appeared a little later than planned, as The Hot Sauce Committee Pt. 2.

UPDATE: Beastie Boys post obituary online.

“With fellow members Michael “Mike D” Diamond and Adam “Adrock” Horovitz, Beastie Boys would go on to sell over 40 million records, release four #1 albums–including the first hip hop album ever to top the Billboard 200, the band’s 1986 debut full length, Licensed To Ill–win three Grammys, and the MTV Video Vanguard Lifetime Achievement award. Last month Beastie Boys were inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, with Diamond and Horovitz reading an acceptance speech on behalf of Yauch, who was unable to attend.”

LEGEND.

PeteHatesMusic staff fondly remember seeing them perform at Molson Park in Barrie in 1998 – a benchmark concert in our lives.
