Morning Music Notes – SXSW and St. Patrick’s Day Hangover Edition

Apologies for the sporadic posts last week – I was chasing leprechauns (and women) in Ireland, and thought drinking top notch Guinness was more important than giving you music news. I don’t regret the decision, and only slightly regret the 12 hour Guinness session.

SXSW Wrap Up

As Rich pointed out in last week’s Morning Music Notes, Bruce Springsteen had some pretty awesome things to say last week. If you like Bruce and have 50 minutes to spare, don’t throw on one of his albums – listen to his South by Southwest Keynote Address.

The Boss also performed with Arcade Fire and Tom Morello (of Rage Against the Machine and Audioslave fame) and a few others. Check out the video of the Woody Guthrie cover, This Land is Your Land.

Tom Morello Leads Occupy Movement at SXSW, Does This Land Is Your Land (again)

Tom Morello must really like This Land is Your Land. He played it with Bruce Springsteen, but more importantly, he had people singing it in the streets of Austin (via Hollywood Reporter). And to add to Morello’s activism and police-filled CV, the police shut down the PA system but Morello wouldn’t stop. Check out the video of it below (warning: audio quality is as good as my cooking – terrible at times).

Eminem Joins 50 Cent at SXSW

50 Cent – where have you been? In order to boost his fledging career and to get people to care about his SXSW show, he had Eminem drop by and make an appearance, guaranteeing headlines in fine media outlets (such as this one). It worked, Fiddy. Do you still call yourself Fiddy? Eminem hooked up with 50 Cent for the tracks Patiently Waiting, ‘Til I Collapse, and Crack a Bottle. Watch the crowd got mental when Eminem shows up. Is he wearing capri pants?!

Last SXSW Post – Mumford and Sons Play a New Song, Lover’s Eyes

Last item PHM is going to note about SXSW today. Mumford and Sons. Heard of them? If so, you’ll be happy to know that they played a new song at SXSW. The song is called Lover’s Eyes and although the camera work might be a bit shotty at the beginning, the camera person settles down and the audio is tip top.

Apple To Tell Us How They Plan to Spend $100 BILLION In Cash

Apple is one fucking rich company. They have a $100 Billion dollars to spend, and today they will tell us how they intend on doing it. Do we care? Only if it means discounts! Maybe they should buy up PeteHatesMusic.com – they’d still have close to $100 billion to spend. The conference call for the spending spree will kick off shortly, at 9:00 am EDT (via iPhone in Canada).

U.S. Federal Aviation Administration To Relax eReader Rules On Planes?

I was smack dab in the middle of a gripping Hardy Boys mystery in the Dublin airport, when the pilots told me to shut off all of our electronic devices. As if my eReader has the power to take down a plane. Pretty sure Osama had box cutters, not Kindles. In America, you might be able to keep reading if the FAA holds true to their thoughts of reconsidering the rules (via Slash Gear). However, the ruling will likely not stem down to smartphones, which is actually what I was reading my book with. So basically, I just wrote a paragraph that might’ve been totally useless to my cause.
