Morning Music Notes – Instead of Slash, He Got a Stash…of Child Porn

Man Tries To Download New Slash Album, Gets Child Porn Instead

That’s the oldest excuse in the book, right? A man from Hull, United Kingdom, tried to (illegally) download an album by ex-Guns N’ Roses guitarist, Slash. Instead, he accidentally (or so he claims) got a stash of child pornography (via Gigwise). The man, Nigel Robinson, owned up to the fact he tried to illegally download an album, because he was concerned that someone was doing something worse than he was, child porn obviously being far more detrimental than a mediocre Slash album.

“When I opened some of them [the files] up, I realised they were young girls. I immediately called my wife,” Robinson told BBC News. “I was panicking. I asked her what she thought I should do and her response was to call the police. I was willing to take it on the chin for downloading the music. I half expected to get arrested for that but felt it was important because someone was obviously uploading this.”

Sadly, since this is now a criminal matter and Robinson is being investigated, he is not allowed to have unsupervised access with children (including his daughter) while the case is being studied. Maybe honesty isn’t the best policy? Or maybe he should get better taste in music.

This is Logical: Fiona Apple Gives Her New Album a 23-Word Title

You have to love the pretentiousness of artists. Fiona Apple is about to release her new album in June, which raises the question – where the fuck has she been since last seen writhing around in the Criminal video? There is no better way to get press than to do something semi-outrageous. Fiona has done this by naming her album after a 23 words poem (via NME).

Fiona’s fourth album will be called ‘The Idler Wheel Is Wiser Than The Driver Of The Screw, And Whipping Cords Will Serve You More Than Ropes Will Ever Do’. The tour will be a two hundred word title, just to top the album name. This isn’t the first time Fiona has done this. She actually has the Guinness Book of World Records for the longest ever album title, with the title of her 90 word second album. This album was called ‘When The Pawn Hits The Conflicts He Thinks Like A King. What He Knows Throws The Blows When He Goes To The Fight. And He’ll Win The Whole Thing ‘Fore He Enters The Ring. There’s No Body To Batter When Your Mind Is Your Might. So When You Go Solo, You Hold Your Own Hand. And Remember That Depth Is The Greatest Of Heights. And If You Know Where You Stand, Then You Know Where To Land. And If You Fall It Won’t Matter, Cause You’ll Know That You’re Right’.

Fiona, darling – we don’t care.

Listen! Sleigh Bells – Irreplaceable (Beyonce Cover)

One thing that rock musicians think is funny and quirky is doing covers of pop songs. One of the first instances that I personally recall of this is Travis doing Britney Spears’ Baby One More Time, which actually sounded pretty good as an acoustic guitar song.

The latest stab at a pop cover is done by Sleigh Bells doing Beyonce’s Irreplaceable, aka the song that makes people say “to the left, to the left” two times after you say it once, not meaning to reference Beyonce. Listen to the cover done on BBC Radio.
