Who Said CDs are Dead? Check Out Art Sculptures Made from CDs

When I buy a CD (read: never), I check out the art work, check out the CD itself, pop it in my computer, copy the files over, and put it on my shelf. It never leaves this shelf until I’m in a rental car that can’t handle my iPod. Someone has figured out cool stuff to do with CDs (although maybe not your precious collection) – make art (via Crave).

Artist Sean Avery (NOT the hockey player Sean Avery) is from Perth, Australia, but now resides in Canada’s capital city, Ottawa. Sean uses old CDs (or even new Nickelback CDs) and circuit boards and makes CD art sculptures. Hanging outside office buildings’ dumpsters (our liberal interpretation), Sean grabs the parts for his art. He then makes a wire mesh frame for the sculpture, and then works his magic. Possibly due to some childhood traumatic experience, Avery only makes sculptures of animals.

Check out Sean’s website and check out some pics of his work below. In 20 years time, we’ll be making sculptures from iPods, and that’s just depressing.
