Morning Music Notes – The Evgeni Malkin Jewel

Is this the 2012 Bonnaroo Line Up?

Festival season is about to kick off, and PeteHatesMusic will be running a feature on some of the major festivals worldwide. But for now, you’ll have to make do with the possible leak of the annual Tennessee festival that is Bonnaroo. A poster of the bands has been leaked, and Bonnaroo won’t confirm OR deny if it is true (via Daily Swarm). Fans of good music should hope it is the line up, with the likes of Radiohead, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Jack White, Drake, Bon Iver (Bonny Bear!), Florence + the Machine, etc etc etc (which is not a band name – yet). The festival takes place June 7-10 in Manchester, Tennessee.

Google’s Doodle

Google sure loves to make cute little designs out of their logo for certain days. Well, today is (supposedly) the cutest day of all, so they pulled out all the stops for their Valentine’s Day logo. There is a young boy holding a Play button, which when clicked, will kick off the one minute animation. Tech Crunch has a profile of the man behind the Doodle, Michael Lipman, and the effort he undertook to get things finished in time.

If you don’t use Google, or are lazy and want to stay here to see the Doodle, check out the video below. Is that a same sex couple at the end? Oh, the horror.

Stay tuned for 14 Love Songs, as chosen by PeteHatesMusic, which will be posted later today.

Check out the new CBC Music App

Yesterday, CBC released their new app for CBC Music, which allows Canadians (sorry, non-Canadians) to stream 40 different radio stations, music from almost 1000 major and indie labels, and content from acclaimed CBC shows, such as Q and George Stroumboulopoulus Tonight (via iPhone in Canada). You can also get select concerts on demand, as well as a full schedule of concert listings. The downside to the app is you must listen to either a Nickelback or Justin Bieber song every other song. Sorry, Canadians.

Listen! The Mars Volta – The Malkin Jewel

The Malkin Jewel is what hockey fans might think that the Pittsburgh Penguins have in superstar Evgeni Malkin, the NHL’s scoring leader. Well, he now has a theme song if he wants it, as The Mars Volta have released the audio for their new song, The Malkin Jewel. The song is taken from their new album, Noctourniquet, which is out on March 27. Give it a listen below. A completely different sound from the Mars Volta, with ever-changing vocal styles from Cedric.
