Watch! An Internet Troll Gets Tracked Down

With the rise of the internet and blogs came the rise of the “everyone has a voice” movement. Of course, not everyone uses this power to voice logical and pro-society statements. We have “internet trolls” or “trolling”, which is when people pretend to be engaged in the discussion at hand, but instead post insulting or random statements on comments or forums in order to piss people off. These trolls get to hide behind their “cool” user names, and then chuckle about the uproar they caused.

But, now we can see what a troll looks like, thanks to some fine investigative journalism at the BBC, as part of their BBC documentary Panorama. The documentary looks at the effect the comments have on people, including the racist and sexist harmful words. But the documentary goes even further, identifying the location of a troll, and then confronting him.

Not surprisingly, the man from Cardiff, Wales, doesn’t really give a shit. The guy finds R.I.P. forums on Facebook, and basically makes light of the victims. We need to stop people like this from procreating – now.
